WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

Rep. Susi Hamilton (D) believes parts of the governor's newly released film incentive proposal don't go far enough.

The current law - which extends at the end of the year - gives a 25 percent refund to productions that spend more than $250,000 with a payout cap of $20 million for most productions.

A proposal put forth by Gov. Pat McCrory (R) would attempt to link the credits closer to film-related jobs and cap the payout at $6 million.

Hamilton says the maximum payout isn't high enough, especially for big-budget movies like Iron Man 3, which filmed in Wilmington.

"We hope that is a point we can negotiate on. It's a starting number," Hamilton said. "Hopefully, we'll end up with a higher number if this is the direction we go."

During a stop in Wilmington Friday, Decker the maximum payout is subject to change.

"Is that the right level? I'm not confident of that," Decker said. "It is a starting place. It was something that worked within the governor's budget. And now we've got to look at it through both houses and their perspective and determine where that is."

Hamilton believes the current film credits should be extended as is. She filed a bill earlier this week that would end the sunset on the incentives.
