ISLE OF PALMS, S.C. (AP) - With the arrival of the summer beach season, one South Carolina oceanfront town is beginning a beach recycling program.
Charleston County is providing the Isle of Palms with 94 blue recycling bins that will be placed on the beach. The bins will be placed beside existing trash barrels and county and town officials say the new bins should help increase the amount of material that gets recycled.
Usually, materials such as such plastic bottles and aluminum cans just end up in the trash barrels as people leave the beach.
The bins are being put out as part of a pilot program that will be reevaluated later this summer.
