CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A Charleston middle school temporarily went on lockdown Tuesday morning as Charleston County deputies were searching for a suspect in the area, authorities say.
Haut Gap Middle School on Bohicket Road was placed under lockdown for less than an hour, a school district spokesman said.
The Charleston County Sheriff's Office was working with the U.S. Marshal Task Force in the search for a wanted subject, according to Maj. Eric Watson with the sheriff's office.
The identity of the subject and the crime in which the subject may have been involved has not yet been released.
An automated call to notify parents was not sent because of its expected short duration, Charleston School District spokesman Jason Sakran said. School principals typically order a call to parents when a lockdown is deemed more serious than this event or has the potential to last longer than an hour, but neither of these conditions were met in this case, Sakran said.
