Bill Murray gives surprise bachelor party speech at downtown steakhouse

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A group of friends from Boston College now have the greatest bachelor party story of all time, thanks to the one and only Bill Murray.

According to a post on The Concourse, blog site Deadspin's home for culture and food coverage, the run-in took place in Charleston over Memorial Day weekend when a guy named Stephen and 20 of his friends were out at dinner for their buddy's bachelor party.

The gang was reportedly dining at what has been confirmed to be Oak Steakhouse when they spotted the actor/comedian/writer/folk hero/part owner of the Charleston RiverDogs inside the restaurant. That's when they had their brilliant idea.

"One of my buddies then went down and asked if he'd come up and say a few words for EJ and got a 'No thanks,'" Stephen wrote to The Concourse.

Despite saying no, Murray reportedly walked up moments later and dropped some wisdom on the group, which was captured on video and has since gone viral.

"You know how funerals aren't for the dead, but for the living," Murray begins. "Bachelor parties are not for the groom, they are for the unwed."

Murray then turned his attention to the single men:

I'm going to give you all this advice, because it's too late for this guy. I recommend to you, if you have someone who you think is the one don't just think 'let's make a date, let's plan this and make a party and get married.' Take that person and travel around the world. Buy a plane ticket for the two of you to travel all around the world and go to places that are hard to go to and hard to get out of. And if when you come back to JFK, when you land in JFK and you're still in love with that person, get married in the airport.

The speech ended with raucous applause, followed by the group raising their soon-to-be married buddy up on their shoulders in celebration. To catch the whole video, click here.

Good luck topping that bachelor party.
