CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - There's a new way to enjoy the Ashley River with the opening of the Northbridge Park.
The park is at the foot of the North Bridge on Sam Rittenberg and opened on Tuesday.
The bridge connects West Ashley and North Charleston.
The $1.5 million project includes a kayak and canoe launch, a pet station, bicycle racks and a walking path under the bridge with security cameras.
"Come and enjoy it, it's a very historic river, the river on which Charleston was founded and we hope citizens will come and enjoy it," Mayor Joe Riley said."But it's here now, forever a beautiful spot on the water's edge and we're very proud."
The park took nine months to finish.
