CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - New senior centers are set to open in North Charleston and West Ashley next year.
The lieutenant governor's office is giving $350,000 to North Charleston for its senior center which will be built on Dorchester Road near fire station number five.
The entire budget for the project is 2 million dollars.
There will be exercise classes, water aerobics and other educational workshops. The center is expected to open next year.
West Ashley is also getting a senior center too. City and county officials are working with Roper St. Francis to build it on the hospital's main property.
It's being designed to meet the health and social needs of the nearly 70,000 senior citizens who live in West Ashley.
The center is expected to open by the end of 2015.
