CofC's Ober Named Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American, Earns USA Baseball Tryout

The award season for CofC stud freshman pitcher Bailey Ober has begun as the 6-8 righty earned two huge honors on Wednesday. Ober was named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American, and was invited to try out for the USA Baseball 24-man roster.

A native of Huntersville, N.C., Ober was selected by Collegiate Baseball as a Freshman All-American, coming in as the runner-up for national Freshman Pitcher of the Year. The honor is the first national award for Ober who won the CAA Rookie of the Year title and CAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player.

Ober’s talents this season were also noticed by the coaching staff of USA Baseball. He has been invited to the USA Baseball training camp on June 19 where he will compete for a chance to make the 24-man final roster. The final roster is announced on June 29.

As a true freshman starter, Ober ranks 23rd in the country and second among freshmen with a 1.55 ERA. He has a 10-2 record and sports a WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) of 0.87, ranking ninth in the nation.

He has tallied 81 strikeouts while walking just 19 batters, as opponents have hit just .190 against him. He leads the team with 11 quality starts, just two away from tying the school record for a single season. Ober and teammate Taylor Clarke recently became the first pair of teammates to each win 10 games in a single year in school history.

Ober has not allowed more than three runs in any start this season. He’s tallied two complete games and finished at least seven innings in six different starts.

He is slated to make his next start this Sunday, June 8 in game two of the Super Regional at Texas Tech.
