FOLLY BEACH, SC (WCSC) - Live 5 News has learned Folly Beach Public Safety Director Dennis Brown is resigning.
Brown is leaving his job to pursue a job with another department, according to Folly Beach Mayor Tim Goodwin.
"I'm not surprised that Chief Brown is leaving because there's just a lot of behind the scenes infighting and back stabbing and I don't blame him one bit," said Folly Beach City Councilman Eddie Ellis.
City leaders credited Brown with bringing community policing to the beach.
However some residents blame Brown and the department for a fight on the beach in 2012 during the July 4th weekend.
It resulted in several officers being injured, some arrests and large amounts of garbage on the beach.
"There's always a fine line, so I'm sure there's some truth to some of it, but there's some truth to everything," said City Councilman DJ Rich.
