Coroner: 18-year-old male fatally stabbed in downtown Charleston

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police are investigating after an 18-year-old was fatally stabbed in downtown Charleston Wednesday morning.

Charleston police say the stabbing happened in the 100 block of Congress Street around 8 a.m.

Police say the victim, identified by the Charleston County Coroner's Office as 18-year-old Brandon Bennett, was transported to MUSC, where he later died as a result of his stab wound.

Detectives say Bennett and the suspect knew each other, but have not yet released the name of the suspect.

More crime on Congress Street

This isn't the first violent crime on that street this year.

Charleston police say suspects are still on the run from a shooting that happened at the corner of Congress and Senate Street back in April.

Those shots were fired just four doors down from the home where 18-year-old Brandon Bennett was stabbed to death Wednesday.

Investigators say a man was shot several times.

According to the police report, he suffered gunshot wounds to his neck, shoulder, leg and foot.

The victim told police he was shot by unknown men who were in a blue vehicle.
