HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

The driver of a stolen Edible Arrangements van was arrested Wednesday following a chase that started in Madison County and ended in Jackson County.

The owner of Edible Arrangements in Huntsville said someone stole the van Wednesday evening from the plaza adjacent to the Walmart on Sparkman Drive in Huntsville.

According to the owner, the driver of the van ran into the store and left the vehicle running. When he turned around to check on the van, it was gone.

Authorities pursued the stolen vehicle into Jackson County. At some point during the chase, the vehicle drove over spike strips.

Officials said the driver, David Wessley Carter, eventually gave himself up. Officers at the scene said Carter appeared to be drunk. He was taken into custody and is facing multiple traffic violations in Madison and Jackson County. Authorities also said he will be charged with DUI.

The owner of the store and the vehicle, Michelda Johnson, said she has no hard feelings.

"Certainly, from a business standpoint, I'm feeling the pain of it in so many ways," Johnson said. "But from a personal standpoint, I just really hope that this will be a catalyst for him to get the help that he needs."
