Bill Murray makes appearance in Charleston couple's engagement photo

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The legend of Bill Murray continues to grow after his appearance in a Charleston couple's engagement photo has gone viral.

Photographer Raheel Gauba of Fia Forever Photography was snapping engagement photos around Charleston of Erik Rogers and his fiance Ashley Donald back in April when the trio was spotted by the famous actor.

Gauba says he was taking a picture of the couple when Rogers began signaling with eyes for the photographer to turn around.

"When I did, Bill Murray was standing there patting his belly trying to make the couple laugh," said Gauba.

Gauba says he asked Murray to step in for a shot, leading to what has become one of the most famous engagement photos of all time.

Murray, who has a home in Charleston and is a part owner of the New York Yankees minor league affiliate Charleston RiverDogs, then wished the couple well and went on his way.

Although the photo was taken on April 16, it was not posted online until Wednesday, spreading like wildfire across the internet.

The photographer says he has been spending much of his time answering the phone and responding to messages since the photo went viral.

This is not the first time - and will likely not be the last time - Charleston has been the site of a viral Bill Murray sighting.

A group of friends from Boston College who were in Charleston over Memorial Day Weekend for a bachelors party had a run in with Murray while at grabbing dinner at Oak Steakhouse.

After asking Murray to say a few words on behalf of the soon-to-be groom, Murray turned his attention to the single men in the group, offering advice on how to find "the one." The speech ended with a round of applause, followed by Murray and the guys lifting their buddy up on their shoulders.

His speech was later posted to the sports blog website, Deadspin.
