Posted: Updated:
PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) -

The Phenix City Police Department took to their Facebook page to offer six tips to avoid burglaries. Police say it's imperative to always check your locks, secure obvious entrances and make your place look occupied.

Police also urge residents to ditch the hidden key, consider getting an alarm system and to assume the burglar will come back.

Statistics show that 76 percent of burglars return within 30 days to attempt another hit. Police say taking these steps could help would-be burglars steer clear of your home.
