JULIA'S FORECAST: Overnight storms giving way to clearing

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Did thunder wake you up early? Technically the storms that rolled through overnight were NOT classified as severe- the winds just didn't gust high enough. That said, there are many reports of downed trees and power outages, especially across Copiah, Lincoln, and Franklin Counties. Even though the wind gusts didn't hit severe criteria (58mph), the fact that the grounds were saturated from Tuesday's rain made it easier for trees to become uprooted.

Now, the storms have moved out for the most part. We're looking at much better conditions for the majority of the day. In fact, we're anticipating a good deal of sunshine this afternoon. Highs will rise into the mid and even high 80s.

The weekend looks great! Chances for rain are minimal, but it will be warm and humid. Expect highs near 90 on both Saturday and Sunday. If you plan on spending a lot of time outside to celebrate Flag Day or Father's Day, stay hydrated and covered in sunscreen! Also try to take breaks by stepping inside into the air conditioning. Have a great weekend!
