NORTH CHARLESTON (WCSC) - A 30-year-old North Charleston man was sentenced to 20 years in prison on federal drug and weapons charges.

US Attorney Bill Nettles said Sean Doctor was sentenced in federal court in Charleston for drug dealing and weapons violation charges. Nettles says Doctor's prior record included multiple drug convictions.

According to prosecutors, evidence presented established that on April 11, 2012 Doctor led North Charleston police on a chase after they attempted to initiate a traffic stop.

Authorities say Doctor was eventually apprehended in Goose Creek. During the chase, Doctor threw a loaded 9 mm handgun, along with a bag containing  270 grams of cocaine and 136 grams of crack cocaine, from his vehicle.

The case was investigated by agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and North Charleston Police Department.

Assistant United States Attorney Nick Bianchi of the Charleston office prosecuted the case.
