Charleston Southern seniors Dylan Black and Christian Reyes have been named to College Football Performance Awards' (CFPA) 2014 Watch List of the top defensive linemen and running back in FCS Football.
College Football Performance Awards
Black is one of 40 defensive linemen on the list, while Reyes is one of 38 running backs. The top player at each respective position will receive the CFPA Award at the end of the season. The goal of College Football Performance Awards is to provide the most scientifically rigorous conferments in college football.
Black enjoyed a breakout season in the Bucs' 3-4 defensive scheme in 2013 as he earned Second Team All-Big South Conference honors. He led CSU and ranked seventh in the Big South in tackles for loss with ten, and also posted 3.5 sacks. His strip sack and subsequent fumble recovery for a touchdown in the fourth quarter against Norfolk State helped propel CSU to a 7-0 start as part of a record-setting 10-win season.
Reyes was the workhorse for an offense that led the country in average time of possession. He shattered the CSU single season rushing record by almost 500 yards, finishing with 1,254 and nine touchdowns while averaging 5.1 yards per carry. Reyes recorded six 100-yard games and finished 20th nationally in rushing yardage. He was named Big South Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts in wins over Charlotte and then-No. 3 and undefeated Coastal Carolina.
CSU opens the 2014 season with the first night game in school history on Thursday, Aug. 28 against Point University at 7 p.m.
