CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP/WCSC) - Government agencies in Charleston County are participating today in their annual emergency drill at two locations in the county.
In-the-field exercises will begin in Mt. Pleasant at the Joe Gawrych Baseball Complex on Rifle Range Road at 9:15 a.m., and will move to the James Island Youth Soccer Club Fields at 10:15 a.m.
In past years, the disaster scenario was usually based on response to a hurricane or an earthquake - two of the bigger natural hazards that the county faces. But this year, county officials say participants wanted to test their response to a terror incident.
The exercise consists of responses to an incident in two areas of the county followed by a news conference at the county emergency operations center. There emergency officials will share with reporters their thoughts on how the drill went.
