ATHENS, AL (WAFF) -

Athens police said a teenager died after her car left the roadway and hit a tree on Sunday.

Police said they were first notified about a wreck on Browns Ferry Street, south of Lucas Ferry Road, shortly after 8:15 a.m. Officers said they found a vehicle had left the road, traveled several hundred feet through a hay and soybean field and hit a tree.

Athens Limestone Ambulance Service took the driver, 18-year-old Alessandra Lizbeth Torreblanca of Decatur, to the Athens Limestone Hospital, where police said she died a short time later.

Police said Torreblanca was the only person in the vehicle. The investigation into this fatal wreck is continuing, and police said they will be assisted by the Limestone County Coroner's Office and the Alabama State Troopers.
