WEST POINT, TN (WSMV) -

Investigators have identified the woman who they say died Sunday after suffering injuries from a machete attack in Lawrence County.

Police say 43-year-old Michelle Dominique Robinson was identified through fingerprints collected during her autopsy.

The Lawrence County Sheriff's Department says Robinson was from North Carolina and was in the area because of the relationship she had developed with Christopher D. Simpson.

Deputies found Robinson just off Wisdom Road in the Westpoint area Saturday. The dirt road is said to be a popular place for ATV riders.

Officials said they discovered Simpson at the scene. They detained him for questioning and uncovered evidence that linked him to the crime.

Simpson, 28, was charged with first-degree murder Sunday after Robinson passed away at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Simpson is being held at the Lawrence County Detention Center under no bond.
