Texas General Hospital General Surgery Department announced today that Bariatric Specialist, Glen M. Ihde M.D, will be joining the team of surgeons at the Arlington offices. Dr. Ihde specializes in the bariatric and general surgical treatments, including Laparoendoscopy.

Dr. Ihde joins four other highly respected surgeons in the practice. According to the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, an estimated 177,600 people had bariatric surgery in 2006. About 15 million or 1 in 50 adults in the U.S. have morbid obesity, which is associated with more than 30 other diseases and conditions including type 2 diabetes, heart disease, sleep apnea, hypertension, asthma, cancer, joint problems and infertility. Dr. Ihde performs all types of laparoscopic bariatric surgery including gastric bypass and advanced laparoscopic general surgery. Advantages to laparoscopic surgery include shorter hospital stays and expedited recovery times, as well as minimized discomfort and complications compared to open surgery.

Glen M. Ihde M.D provides surgical and comprehensive healthcare services. Patients also have access to a state-of-the-art facility that includes radiology and imaging services and a team of physicians that care deeply about patients, offering patients high quality, personalized health care. “I understand the importance of getting to know patients personally, their medical history, their family, and all of the factors that have an impact on their health,” said Glen M. Ihde M.D.
