College of Charleston head baseball coach Monte Lee will stay the College of Charleston head baseball coach. Lee, who's was interviewed for the vacancy at Arizona State last week, will remain in the Lowcountry after the Sun Devils have reportedly agreed to hire Indiana Head Coach Tracy Smith for the position.
"I was humbled by this experience. I am excited about being here at CofC." Lee said when he met with the media Tuesday night. "I will be recruiting this weekend for this team here."
The news comes a day after the College of Charleston offered Lee a new 7-year extension that would bump his salary up from $115,000 to almost $200,000 per year. A school official confirmed that deal is on the table but cannot be announced until Lee signs it.
"The commitment that CofC has made to me and to our baseball program is incredible and fantastic." Lee said
Lee just completed his 6th, and by most accounts, best season with the Cougars leading the team to the Super Regionals for just the 2nd time in program history with a 44-19 record. He's compiled a record of 231-130 in his time with the College and led them to 3 NCAA tournament appearances.
He's also led the team to a Southern Conference regular season title and the tournament title from the school's inaugural year in the CAA.
