(WMC) - A bird in the hand may be worth two in the bush, but two bushes are worth about $100 dollars, according to security at International Paper.

Of all the valuable assets the Fortune 500 company can count to its name, the shrubs are the things that got stolen.

Memphis Police say Derrick Powell, 45, stole the bushes. He faces charges of theft of property under $500.

According to an affidavit of complaint, an employee witnessed a strange man on International Paper property at 6400 Poplar "pull both shrubs up from the ground and walk across the street with them to the Paragon Bank." Police say the witness saw the guy then throw the shrubs into an awaiting getaway car, a Chevrolet Express van with Tennessee tag 268XHJ, and speed away from the scene with an accomplice.

Memphis police say Powell owns the van. He admitted to driving it and being at the bank on the date of the theft.

International Paper security told investigators the two shrubs are worth about $100.

Powell has been released from the Shelby County jail after posting $100 bond. He was due in court Wednesday morning.
