JOHNS ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Main Road on Johns Island has been reopened to traffic following an officer-involved accident early Thursday morning.

Authorities responded to a report of a Charleston Police officer-involved accident in the area of Main and Chisholm Roads at around 3:30 a.m., according to Charleston County Dispatch.

According Highway Patrol Senior Trooper Hannah Wimberly, the investigation suggests the officer's car crossed the center line of Main Road, and the officer over-corrected and went off the right-hand side of the road, striking a tree.

The officer was taken to MUSC to be treated for injuries. MUSC is not releasing the officer's condition, but Charleston Police spokesman Charles Francis said the officer "is going to be okay."

Authorities say Main Road had been closed between Chisholm and River Roads because of the accident.

The investigation is ongoing.
