Officials: Lightning causes fire at James Island home

JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Officials say a small fire was extinguished at a home on James Island after lightning struck the house Friday night.

The fire started around 10:30 p.m. at a house on the 500 block of Planters Trace Drive.

Firefighters with both the Charleston Fire Department and the James Island Public Safety responded to the scene.

Officials tell us the flames were contained to one upstairs room, but there is smoke damage in the home. 

James Island Public Safety officials say evidence of lightning was found inside one of the walls.

According to firefighters with James Island, one person was at home when the fire started, but was not injured.
