Mayor Joe Riley issued a proclamation declaring June 30 as "Social Media Day" in Charleston, encouraging people to "celebrate the technological advancements that enable everyone to connect with real-time information and the revolution of media becoming social, to communicate from miles apart, and have their voices heard."
The website Mashable launched Social Media Day in 2010 to recognize what it called "the digital revolution happening right before our eyes."
