Charleston emergency crews rescue two kayakers in Awendaw

CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Officials with the Charleston County Rescue squad say two kayakers were rescued in Awendaw Tuesday afternoon.

At 5:30 p.m., emergency crews responded to a report of kayakers in distress near the Gadsenville boat landing.

Crews launched two jet skis and a boat from the Isle of Palms marina, and the Charleston County Rescue Squad airboat from the Gadsenville Boat Landing.

The two kayakers were successfully rescued by the airboat crew.

Authorities say a Charleston County EMS crew checked the kayakers, but both denied any need for medical attention.

Emergency officials say they would like to remind everyone when going out on the water to file a float plan with family and friends in case of an emergency and have a fully charged cell phone.

In addition to the the rescue squad, the Awendaw Fire Department, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, Charleston County Sheriff's Office and the Isle of Palms Fire Department responded to the rescue.
