Authorities rescued three people in Lake Moultrie Tuesday night after the boat they were traveling in took on water and began to sink.
Berkeley County Rescue Squad and SC Department of Natural Resources officers responded to reports of a sinking boat in the middle of Lake Moultrie around 8:45 p.m.
Officials say a wave came into the boat, causing it to fill with water. The three occupants were able to grab life jackets before the boat sank.
The three were rescued by a DNR officer at 9:30 p.m., according to Rescue Squad Chief Bill Salisbury.
Salisbury says the group was able to keep a cell phone above water, which was used to call 911 and provide authorities with directions to their location.
This is the second rescue in the past several weeks involving three people and a sinking boat, according to the rescue squad chief.
