Summerville gears up for patriotic party

Summerville's annual Red, White and Blue on the Green will be a team effort this year, combining two events into one.

The event will take place Friday from 5:30-9:30 p.m. at Gahagan Park, at 515 W. Boundary St. and will be free.

The event includes a fireworks display, a kids' zone with games and prizes and live entertainment, according to the town's website. There will also be a beer garden featuring local breweries and several food vendors.

Food vendors will include Sticky Fingers, Shuckin' Thyme Catering and Moose's Mobile BBQ, among others.

A free shuttle will pick up families who park at Heritage Square at the corner of the Berlin G. Meyers Parkway and Highway 78 and take them too and from the event.

Outside coolers and dogs will not be permitted at the event, organizers say.

The Town of Summerville traditionally hosted the annual Fourth of July fireworks show at the park while Summerville DREAM has hosted the Red, White and Blue on the Green party at Hutchinson Square.
