PARRIS ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - A new $10 million security gate is designed to ease the flow of traffic into Parris Island.
The Beaufort Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1mWARCT ) work will begin in about a week on a new gate leading at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot.
Public affairs director Rachel Nolan says the gate will be moved and the new location should prevent traffic from backing up during recruit family days and graduations. Nolan said easing delays at the gate will also help ease congestion in nearby Port Royal.
More than 120,000 visitors come to Parris island each year.
The project was proposed four years ago but the money was not allocated until recently.
