Deputies arrest a man for armed robbery of a CVS store in North Charleston

NORTH CHARLESTON (WCSC) - A Johns Island man is charged with armed robbery after the North Charleston Police Department says he stole medications from the CVS drug store at Dorchester Road and Ashley Phosphate road early Friday morning. Richard Lamar Dean is accused of entering the store just before 2:00 a.m. wearing a mask, carrying a knife, and demanding Oxycontin and Morphine from the pharmacy. After getting the medications, witnesses told police the suspect left the store and fled in a silver vehicle.

Dorchester County deputies spotted the vehicle a short time later on Dorchester Road and tried to stop the driver. He did not stop and deputies followed him on to Old Charleston Highway on John's Island, just off of Main Road. Deputies say Dean turned onto a dirt road and finally stopped and surrendered.

Inside the vehicle, deputies found a pillow case with Oxycontin and Morphine inside. They also found a mask and knife inside the car.
