According to officials with South Carolina High Patrol, a two-vehicle accident on Highway 17, at Highway 17 Bypass, killed one person and sent 5 others to the hospital.
Officials say the driver of the Chrysler 300 was killed and 4 passengers inside were taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. Troopers tell us those passengers were wearing seatbelts.
The deceased victim was identified as 50-year-old Richard Weldon, according to Georgetown County Deputy Coroner Chase Ridgeway.
The driver in the other vehicle, a Chevy Trailblazer, was also taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.
Their condition is unknown.
Officials say the Chrysler was traveling south on Highway 17 Bypass around 8 p.m. Thursday night and tried to cross Highway 17. That's when the Chrysler collided with the Chevy Trailblazer.
The crash remains under investigation.
