NEW KENT, VA (WWBT) -

TRAFFIC ALERT: All lanes reopened on I-64 east in New Kent

All lanes of traffic are back open on Interstate 64 East in New Kent following a nine-vehicle chain reaction accident that closed that section of the interstate for several hours Tuesday afternoon.

The driver of a box truck reached down for a bottle of water starting the chain reaction crash around 10:26 a.m. at mile marker 222, two miles east of the West Point exit, according to State Police. In all, four people were injured in the crash, which also involved two tractor-trailers. Police couldn't provide any information on the extent of the injuries.

James R. Frazier, 41, of Norfolk, was charged with reckless driving.

VDOT closed all eastbound lanes at mile marker 214 for several hours. The left eastbound lane was finally reopened around 4:35 p.m.

As of 6:15 p.m. Monday, only residual traffic remained.
