Moncks Corner woman pleading for community's help in solving daughter's murder

MONCKS CORNER, SC (WCSC) -

It's been just over a month since the June 7 shooting at a Moncks Corner block party that claimed the life of 19-year-old Ariel Morgan.

On Wednesday, Morgan's mother, Kendra Morgan-Stevens, held a press conference at the Berkeley County's Sheriff's Office, pleading for anyone with information in her daughter's murder to come forward.

"We are missing a very special person," she said."For her to be gunned down in this manner, over probably some foolishness, is very hurtful."

Investigators say Morgan was attending a block party on Tish Lane in Moncks Corner when gunfire broke out later in the night.

Berkeley County deputies say at least seven different guns were fired at the party early Saturday morning, injuring four people in addition to Morgan. The five victims were transported to an area hospital, where Morgan died of her injuries.

Morgan, a sophomore at Francis Marion University, took to Twitter the night before to say she just wanted to be able to have a good time at the party, and hoped all troublemakers would stay home.

Captain Bobby Shuler of the Berkeley County Sheriff's office sat alongside Morgan-Stevens Wednesday in support.

Shuler said the number of people in attendance at the June block party, reportedly hundreds, has made it difficult to sort through varied accounts of what actually took place.

He said the investigation is ongoing, and echoed Morgan-Stevens in asking for community involvement.

"It may just be that one little piece of information, what somebody assumes to be insignificant, that may be the piece that actually helps solve this crime."
