CHARLESTON, SC -

Charleston Southern freshman Clarence Gallop earned a second place finish in the hammer throw at the USA Track and Field Junior Outdoor Championships at the University of Oregon on Sunday. Gallop's throw of 67.66 meters earns him a spot in the IAAF World Junior Championships that will take place in Eugene from July 22-27.

Gallop threw a CSU record 67.66 meters on his second attempt to finish just .04 meters behind winner Charlie Ionata of Wake Forest. The Providence, Rhode Island product's throw would be the second longest in Big South Conference history had it come in collegiate competition.

Gallop has left his mark all over the CSU record book as a freshman, and most recently finished 36th at the NCAA East Regional in May with a throw of 57.46 meters. He also finished second at the Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships in April with a toss of 59.21 meters.

Gallop will now set his sights on the IAAF World Junior Championships to be held at the same site from July 22-27. The international event is for the world's top juniors age 19 or younger, and has been held biennially since 1986.
