Deputies following leads in fatal Ravenel shooting

Charleston County deputies say they are following some good leads in a deadly home invasion hat left one woman dead in Ravenel, but have not made any arrests.

Deputies responded to a report of a shooting to a mobile home park on Savannah Highway on a report of a shooting at approximately 2 a.m. Sunday, according to Charleston Sheriff's spokesman Maj. Eric Watson.

Deputies say two armed men forced their way into a home and demanded money from a male victim and his girlfriend, then fired multiple shots inside the home. Both the man and woman sustained gunshot wounds and the woman died at the scene, Watson said.

Officials with the Charleston County Coroner's Office has identified the victim as 24-year-old Latorria Heyward.

The male victim was transported by helicopter to MUSC.

According to a neighbor, Heyward had two young children who were not home at the time of the shooting.

The Charleston County Sheriff's Office and the Charleston County Coroner's Office are investigating this incident.
