A policy that would allow Dorchester District 2 high school students to use their cell phones while on school grounds is one step closer to becoming permanent.
The board approved the first reading of the amended phone usage policy during Monday night's board meeting, according to DD2 spokesperson Pat Raynor.
The policy would allow high school students to use their phones during non-instructional times while in school, such as lunch and between classes.
Raynor says that for the policy to become permanent, it must be approved at the next board meeting, which will be held July 28. If the policy passes without objections, the new phone usage rules will go into effect this upcoming school year.
