NORTH CHARLESTON (WCSC) - Lowcountry residents don't have to travel far to attend performances at one of the the top-selling theaters in the country or even the world.

Pollstar Magazine rated the center in its 2014 Mid-Year Top 100 Theatre Rankings as the 43rd top-selling theatre in the United States, according to a release from the performing arts center.

It also ranked the Performing Arts Center as the 58th top-selling theatre worldwide, and is the only South Carolina venue to achieve the world ranking, according to spokesman Melanie Quick.

It is the second year in a row that the venue ranked 58th in worldwide sales.

Rankings are based on tickets sold worldwide for shows played during the first six months of 2014.

But general manager Dave Holscher says the exciting year the facility has already experienced is far from over.

We’re gearing up for a busy fall and will continue to bring world class entertainment to North Charleston,” Holscher said in a statement.

Events that will have been performed by the end of the year at the Performing Arts Center and its sister venue, the North Charleston Colisum, include Disney on Ice, the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, WWE, Cirque du Soleil - "Michael Jackson: The Immortal Tour," John Mayer, Darius Rucker, Barry Manilow, Widespread Panic, Sesame Street Live and Disney Live, the release states.

The center opened in 1999 and features 2,300 seats.
