SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Metro Police have confirmed that two separate shooting took place overnight in Savannah within a few hours of each other.

The first shooting happened at the 1300 block of East 36th and Cedar streets at around 8:20 p.m. Thursday. According to neighbors, there was a large police presence in the area around that time.

On arrival, Dion L. Folston, age 17, was observed suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to Memorial University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Residents who live in both neighborhoods where the shootings reportedly occurred gave WTOC a few details about what they say happened.

One man said he was standing outside and saw it all happen. He said he saw two young males, one chasing the other with a gun. That's when he said he heard at least 10 gunshots and then the victim fell to the ground wounded around the corner. The man said he called police and then pointed out where there was still blood and shell casings in the street.

Then a second shooting happened just a few hours later, around 12:42 a.m. Thursday night at 700 Block of West 39th and Harden streets in Savannah. According to neighbors, they told WTOC they saw heavy police presence there.

Once on the scene, Jatoya White was observed suffering from gunshot wounds, she was transferred to Memorial University Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

One woman said she heard gunfire and was scared. She said she locked the doors and hugged her son close, but didn't look outside.

Another man said he did see police responding to the incident. He said a woman was shot, and that she was his friend. He said he went to visit her in the hospital and she was talking. But he couldn't know anything about her condition. He didn't want to provide any other information about who that woman was.

WTOC is currently working to get more information about exactly what took place.

Both scenes have been cleared. Police have not released any details at this time.

These two shootings bring the total number of reported shootings in Savannah up to five in the past couple days.
