RCSO investigating a shooting in South Augusta

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

A suspect has been arrested after being shot during a break-in attempt.

Eric Harlan now faces charge of aggravated assault, possession of a knife during the commission of a crime, and burglary in the first degree.

Butler Creek resident Diane Stanford was shocked when her daughter called Friday morning and said someone had been shot down the street.

"I walked outside and saw all this commotion going on," Stanford said.

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office said they were called to Logan Circle street at 7:53 A. M, where at 26-year-old man had been shot in the stomach.

Property Manager Graham Logan told Fox 54 in a statement:

"Last night we had an unfortunate incident where an ex-boyfriend entered the home of one of our residents without permission. After making an attempt to harm the resident, she shot him in self-defense. Butler Creek goes to great lengths to establish a safe community for its residents. Unfortunately, domestic issues of this type can occur anywhere, but thankfully our residents involved in the incident are safe and well."

Stanford said she's still shocked.

"I just couldn't believe this happened in broad daylight," Stanford said.

The victim was taken to GRU for medical treatment. Deputies said the incident is still under investigation.
