NORTH CHARLESTON (WCSC) - North Charleston police arrested one man in connection with an early-morning fatal shooting Saturday.
Antwan Maurice Heyward, 30, was arrested and charged with Murder, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Violent Crime, according to police spokesman Spencer Pryor.
Dispatchers confirmed police were called to investigate a shooting on the 2200 block of Suffolk Street just before 3 a.m. Police say they located a female victim unresponsive inside a Chevy Suburban with the vehicle running and in reverse gear. The vehicle had a single bullet hole in the front windshield.
Police believe the victim was in the driveway of a home with Heyward and at some point, when she attempted to leave the location, the fatal shot was fired.
The Charleston County Coroner's office identified the victim as 43 year old Collette Warren.
Heyward initially told police he did not know Warren, but later admitted to knowing her, according to Pryor. Police obtained a search warrant and found a Taurus .357 Magnum revolver containing two spent shell casings hidden in an oven, along with a small quantity of cocaine, Pryor said.
The investigation is ongoing.
