KIAWAH ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - The coast guard rescued a man whose vessel was sinking Saturday at the entrance to the North Edisto River near Kiawah Island.
Officials say Sea Tow Charleston personnel notified watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Charleston command center of a 31-foot Sea Ray vessel that had run aground and was sinking.
A helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Facility Charleston responded and lifted the man out of the water, according to officials. The man suffered minor injuries.
Officials say after the man was hoisted, the vessel sank and capsized.
A crew aboard a 29-foot special purpose boat from Coast Guard Station Charleston was also on scene, according to officials. The boat monitored the area for potential pollution from the sinking vessel.
