Walterboro woman reunited with puppy months after car crash

COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A woman and her dog, who was thought to be dead following a car accident in May, were reunited earlier this week.

On Monday, Sheri De Florio was reunited with her missing dog, Abbie.

Her 6-month-old Great Dane had been missing since a car accident on a back road near I-95 in Walterboro on May 11.

"It was a miracle I even survived the crash," De Florio said.

According to De Florio, her Jeep flipped three times.

"I didn't think [Abbie] made it. All the windows were open while the crash took place," De Florio said.

De Florio said witnesses had reported seeing a Great Dane near the highway dozens of miles from the scene of the accident.

But De Florio said after the wreck she thought her dog was so badly hurt that Abbie might have gone to nearby woods and succumbed to injuries.

De Florio's friend posted pictures on websites and Facebook in an attempt to find Abbie which resulted in the reunion.

"A picture of her was texted me on Monday while I was at work, and I almost fell off my chair," said De Florio."I can't believe it happened, I thought for sure she was dead."

Crews with the Colleton County Animal Control found Abbie.

De Florio was reunited with Abbie on Monday, and says she's grateful to the Colleton County Animal Control.

Officials at animal control said when they found Abbie she was thin, but nonetheless in good condition.
