An early-morning traffic stop by Charleston police led to the arrest of a Mount Pleasant man and the confiscation of drugs, money and guns Thursday.
Justin Arthur Rivers, 22, faces charges of possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, trafficking cocaine, trafficking cocaine base, unlawful carrying of a handgun and the possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
Police say they confiscated 111.5 grams of cocaine, 10.2 grams of cocaine base, 80.6 grams of marijuana, more than $3,400 in cash, two handguns and an assault rifle.
Rivers' car was spotted drifting back and forth between lanes on Meeting Street, then began to cross over into the outside lane before drifting back into the inside lane, according to police.
A Charleston police officer initiated a traffic stop, then approached the vehicle, saw that the driver's side window was half-opened and immediately smelled "the overwhelming and distinct odor of marijuana" coming from within the vehicle, according to police spokesman Charles Francis.
Rivers is being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center, police say.
The investigation is ongoing.
