SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - A lot is going on in a massive Summerville community where 10,000 homes are planned over the next two decades.
Businesses are opening while others are still under construction in the Nexton Community just off exit 199.
The front area of the community will have offices, hotels, apartments and restaurants. The Carolina Ale House just opened their doors Monday.
Framing for over 300 upscale apartments set to be ready early next year is already underway.
Just next door, work on Summerville's first Courtyard Marriott is coming along. Visitors will be able to book a room this fall.
Three months ago the Berkeley County School District broke ground on the Nexton Elementary school. That should be ready for students and teachers in time for the 2015 school year.
Palmetto Primary Care Physicians are going to build a health and wellness campus in the community. They are investing $135 million dollars in the project.
Crews are building more roads to get ready for the construction of 10,000 homes. The group of builders for those homes will be announced this Fall.
A new exit along I-26 will also be built to support the size of the new community.
Construction throughout Nexton will be done in phases over the course of 25 years.
