The countdown is on.

Senator Vincent Sheheen, also the Democratic candidate for governor, celebrated an election milestone by rallying for support in the Holy City.

Nearly 40 of his supporters gathered in his West Ashley campaign office, ready to canvas the city, going door to door to rouse votes for the Camden attorney.

"I believe that to change the state people have to be involved," Sheheen said.

WEST ASHLEY SC (WCSC) - "Today is a day of action for the people of South Carolina, to get involved in their government."

While addressing the crowd, Sheheen announced plans to institute a universal 4-year-old kindergarten program, also promising to keep Medicaid funds in South Carolina.

The state senator is running against incumbent Governor Nikki Haley for the job.
