5 Around Town's 5 favorite moments from Panthers Training Camp

It was a big weekend for Carolina Panthers fans. The team's 20th season officially kicked off on Friday with Fan Fest at the newly upgraded Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. The following day, players checked in for training camp at Wofford where, late that afternoon, the team braved the blazing hot temps at an open practice.

Sponsors and partners were given special access to the practice and team so we were able to get up close and personal with some of the players.

Here are 5 Around Town's top five favorite moments at Panther's training camp:

1. Cam Newton, of course. Newton was all smiles when he exited the locker room and made his way to the field. Never one to miss a moment to showboat, the QB encouraged fans to yell louder and used his arm as a noise barometer to rank the level of cheering.

2. The Top Cats are truly tops. Not gonna lie, this is one talented cast of Cats. It may have taken 20 years to get there, but this year's team is on par with the Cowboy's Cheerleaders.

3. While DeAngelo Williams cruised past fans awaiting autographs, other players were happy to oblige. From rookies like Bene Benwikere to seasoned vets like Jonathan Stewart and Mike Tolbert, multiple players took the time to sign for as many fans as possible.

4. The girl standing next to us in the receiving line as the player left the field went to high school with Jason Avant. She couldn't have been happier to see him and he was just as excited to have a little piece of home right there on the sidelines. When he came through the line, she shouted their high school at him and he came right on over to give her a big ol' hug. The whole encounter was captured by the guys from the Panthers Huddle and should air on this week's episode (Saturday, 8/2, at Noon on Live 5).

5. Luke Keuchly is a beast. Like, for real. He is one big bad linebacker. But off the field, he was so sweet. The AP Defensive Player of the Year came off the field last and probably spent the most time with fans. He even posed for a selfie with yours truly.

The Panthers pre-season games kick off August 8 at 7:30 p.m. when they take on the Buffalo Bills. You can watch the game on Live 5 WCSC.
