Bill Woolsey wins James Island mayoral race

JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) -

Bill Woolsey has won the James Island mayoral race. Woolsey faced attorney Trent Kernodle in Tuesday's election.

Woolsey won with 1,034 votes to Kernodle's 486.

Woolsey, 58, was previously elected mayor of the town in 2010 and served as a member of town council from 2002-2004. He is also an economics professor at The Citadel.

Kernodle, 62, is an attorney who has not held previous elected offices.

Voters also hit the polls to fill all four town council seats among six contenders.

The top votes went to Garrett Milliken, Leonard Blank, Darren Troy Mullinax and Joshua Stokes.

State law requires the town to hold an election within two years of its incorporation. James Island's most recent incorporation was in August, 2012.
