Bill Woolsey has won the James Island mayoral race. Woolsey faced attorney Trent Kernodle in Tuesday's election.

Woolsey won with 1,034 votes to Kernodle's 486.

Woolsey, 58, was previously elected mayor of the town in 2010 and served as a member of town council from 2002-2004. He is also an economics professor at The Citadel.

Kernodle, 62, is an attorney who has not held previous elected offices.

Voters also hit the polls to fill all four town council seats among six contenders.
