MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Charleston County deputies are calling off their active search for a man who escaped during a car chase Tuesday morning, according to Charleston County Sheriff's Maj. Eric Watson.
Deputies were searching on the ground and by helicopter after a car chase at around 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday.
Deputies say they were attempting to apprehend the man and wound up in a vehicle pursuit. The man was driving a Red Ford Mustang rented from Hertz Rental, according to Charleston County Sheriff's Maj. Eric Watson.
During the pursuit, one of the vehicle's front tires blew out and the suspect fled on foot behind the Lowes in Mount Pleasant, Watson said.
Deputies say the man had evaded apprehension some time Monday evening, but have not released the name of the suspect or what led to the initial chase.
