N. Charleston police investigating armed robbery

Police are searching for an armed robber who stole money from a Remount Road store just after midnight on Wednesday morning.

Police say a man walked into the Sunshine Food Store, approached an employee who was restocking merchandise, showed the employee a gun and demanded money.

The employee told police he attempted to escape when he realized the man had a gun, but the man ordered him behind the counter and told him to open the cash registers. The suspect grabbed some cash out of the cash registers and then fled the scene on foot, the incident report states.

Police say the robber was last seen running toward N. Murray Avenue towards Hanahan.

A witness told police he entered the store, saw the robber taking money from the register and quickly retreated to a safe location outside of the business and called police. The witness reported the robber fled the area on what was believed to be either a black or gray moped.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information on this robbery should call Crime Stoppers at (843) 554-1111.
