Suspect charged with attempted murder in teen stabbing

A 19-year-old Ravenel woman who reportedly stabbed a 16-year-old girl in the back of the head during a confrontation earlier this month has been arrested.

Chaniqua Butler was arrested Wednesday and charged with attempted murder.

According to an incident report, deputies were called to a home in the 6000 block of Roper Run Road on July 18 around 10 p.m., where they met with a 16-year-old who was bleeding from the back of her head and forearm.

The victim told deputies she was not getting along with Butler and the two agreed to stay away from each other. When the victim arrived at the home to pick up her things, she was reportedly confronted by Butler, who pulled out a knife.

Butler allegedly swung at the victim with the knife, slashing her arm. When the victim attempted to run away, Butler stabbed her in the back of the head, resulting in a one-inch long laceration, the report states.

Deputies say the two teens were separated, at which point Butler ran away.

The victim was transported to MUSC for treatment.
