South Carolina's annual Sales Tax Holiday Weekend kicks off after midnight

Tax-free weekend kicks off in South Carolina starting Friday morning at 12:01 a.m. through midnight Sunday.

This is a great time to score back-to-school deals. Supplies like notebooks and paper are tax free, as well as the more expensive items you may have been holding out for like bookbags and calculators. Computers, printers, and computer software are also tax exempt.

Products exempt from taxes during the three-day event include:

  • Clothing
  • Clothing accessories including, but not limited to, hats, scarves, hosiery, and handbags
  • Footwear
  • School supplies including, but not limited to, pens, pencils, paper, binders, notebooks, books, bookbags, lunchboxes, and calculators
  • Computers, printers and printer supplies, and computer software
  • Bath wash clothes, blankets, bed spreads, bed linens, sheet sets, comforter sets, bath towels, shower curtains, bath rugs and mats, pillows, and pillow cases.

The following items do not qualify for the sales tax exemption:

  • Jewelry and Watches
  • Cosmetics
  • Eyewear
  • Wallets
  • Furniture

Items placed on layaway or similar deferred payment and delivery plans also do not qualify. Clothing or footwear rentals or the sales or leasing of items for use in a trade or business are likewise excluded from the event.
